. These HDPE Bio Block media features many mesh tube on surface.

The surface of Bio Blok Filter media acts as a carrier for special microbial bacterial strains capable of treating and degrading organic matter in various wastewaters. The capacity of a biofilter depends on the number of bacteria the filter can sustain. The larger the specific surface area of Bio Blok Filter media, the greater the number of bacteria that can grow.

Our Bio Block Media uses contact filtration or tubular settlers to reduce suspended solids (SS). At lower hydraulic negatives, the particles will be pushed together to form flocs.
Bio Block Media is based on a spiral shape. It provides ideal conditions for particles to attach to each other

NIHAO BIO BLOCK Media Advantage

ASK AN EXPERT

Trickling Filter Media is used to a higher degree for wastewaters outside the normal concentration range. In particular, the filter medium made of plastic is especially suitable for the primary treatment of industrial wastewater or municipal wastewater. Made of plastic, Trickling Filter Media exhibits great stability against fluctuations in organic supply. Due to the large number of microorganisms contained in Trickling Filter Media, Trickling Filter Media is extremely resistant to occasional toxins in wastewater. Therefore, Trickling Filter Media has great advantages as a high-load primary treatment plant for domestic and industrial wastewater.

However, the operation of activated sludge systems can be unstable as the process requires a stable and uniform supply of process water to work optimally. Due to the wide variation in wastewater supply (quantity and quality) from industry and urban communities, wastewater inlets to activated sludge plants are controlled by expensive and complex control•monitoring systems. When the incoming wastewater exceeds the wastewater treatment capacity of the normal wastewater treatment plant, a large amount of wastewater is discharged without treatment, which is obviously unacceptable to the environment.

Bio Block media

Bio Blok Filter media uses an activated sludge system and fixed membrane technology activated sludge system wastewater treatment process. The principle is that due to the injection of a large amount of air, the microorganisms form flocs and circulate freely in the water column. The contact surface of flocs and wastewater is close to the optimal contact surface, and a good treatment effect can be achieved.

Nihao Plastic HDPE Bio Blok Filter media is easy to retrofit and update when we refurbish/upgrade existing equipment. Plant or new system installation The capacity of an activated sludge treatment plant can easily be increased by upgrading the activated sludge treatment plant to incorporate submerged aeration filters or fixed membrane technology based on Nihao Bio Blok Filter media. Since most of these bacteria are immobilized on the filter medium, the risk of washing out live bacteria is also minimized. In the same tank volume, the higher the number of active bacteria, the more processing capacity will be significantly improved. The improvement is up to 400% while using the same tank volume as before.
Compared with traditional reactors without fixed media, Trickling Filter Media can increase the per-volume wastewater treatment capacity of the reactor.

  • In biofilters, a thin microbial film forms on the surface of Trickling Filter Media. Wastewater is treated when it passes through a biofilm. The principle of biofilm degradation of organic matter is as follows (see left picture)..

As the wastewater flows down through the Trickling Filter Media, oxygen from the air is absorbed by the water and enters the biofilm. Dissolved organic matter in wastewater diffuses into the biofilm. This biofilm consists of microorganisms that degrade ammonia nitrogen in wastewater into carbon dioxide and water, while new microorganisms continue to grow. This process consumes oxygen. Therefore, in thick biofilms, anaerobic (anaerobic) conditions exist in the part of the membrane closest to the Trickling Filter Media. When the biofilm becomes too thick, it sloughs off the filter media surface into flakes. Biofilm flakes settle in a subsequent settling tank. New types of biofilms are developing rapidly. Therefore, it is a very simple and easy process, depending only on the form of Trickling Filter Media, the supply of wastewater and the temperature of the wastewater.

Trickling Filter Media acts as a catalyst in connection with fermentation and similar processes, in the sense that Trickling Filter Media will create an optimal hydraulic liquid flow through the bioreactor by pumping biomass through vertical pipes. This creates an optimal large interactive contact surface for the bacteria, and the bacteria also get the best growth conditions on the rough surface of the Trickling Filter Media. This means that it will be possible to significantly increase the number of working bacteria. Trickling Filter Media is patented.

  • The filter walls must hold the filter material, protect it from cold winds, and improve natural ventilation so that the wastewater can be aerated. At the same time, the walls must be provided with a sufficient number of holes (at least 8%) for air to pass through in order to aerate the wastewater.

It is necessary to supply oxygen to the biological oxygenation processes. Normally, this happens by a chimney effect in the filter, however, in certain cases, a mechanical aeration can be necessary. High organic load, small differences in temperature between air and wastewater, and protection of the filter against frost and the environment against filter flies are all factors that can necessitate forced aeration of the filter. By natural aeration, i.e. by chimney effect, the airflow can move both upwards and downwards. In the winter, the air in the filter, which has the same temperature as the wastewater, is lighter than the surrounding air, therefore, the airflow moves upwards. In the summer, at the night the airflow moves upwards and in the day it moves downwards. By a difference of temperature of 6o C, an air speed of approx. 0.3 m/min. occurs. This speed supplies sufficient oxygen for the oxygenation of organic matter, even in highly loaded filters.

Size:Regarding the size of Trickling Filter Media, you can choose according to your experience in sewage treatment. The smaller the Trickling Filter Media, the larger the contact area of the same volume of Trickling Filter Media. The size of the Trickling Filter Media is based on the requirement that the dropped biofilm portion should be able to pass through without clogging the Trickling Filter Media.

Height: In general, increasing the height of trickling filters can improve the treatment of organics by increasing the contact time. In addition to being important for the degree of purification of organic matter, the height of trickling filters is also important for nitrification. Experience has shown that nitrification improves as the height of trickling filters increases. As a rule of thumb, Bio trickling filters are usually built at a height of 2 to 4 meters. With Trickling Filter Media as filter material, it is now possible to build taller trickling filters because Trickling Filter Media is made of self-supporting modules. Therefore, Trickling Filter Media does not require an expensive tank structure, which makes the construction of trickling filters very cheap.

Compatibility with different types of filters
Bio Block media is compatible with a variety of different types of filters, including canister filters, hang-on-back filters, and sump filters. It can be used as a standalone filter or in combination with other types of filtration media to provide a complete and effective filtration system for aquariums and other aquatic systems.
recommended quantities and proper placement of the media in the filter.
A. Recommended quantities
The amount of HDPE Bio Block Media you need depends on the size of your aquarium and the type of filter you are using.
As a general rule of thumb, you should aim for 1 pound of HDPE Bio Block Media per 25-50 gallons of water.
This can vary depending on your specific aquarium setup and the amount of waste produced by your aquatic animals.
It's always better to err on the side of caution and use more HDPE Bio Block Media than less.

B. Proper placement
HDPE Bio Block Media can be used as a standalone filter or in combination with other types of filtration media.
For best results, place HDPE Bio Block Media as the first stage of the filter, directly after mechanical filtration.
This allows the HDPE Bio Block Media to trap larger debris and waste particles, while allowing the water to flow through the rest of the filtration media.
It's important to avoid packing the HDPE Bio Block Media too tightly, as this can reduce the flow of water and decrease the effectiveness of the filtration process.
To avoid dead spots, place the HDPE Bio Block Media in a way that allows the water to flow through it evenly and with minimal obstruction.

C. Maintenance
HDPE Bio Block Media should be cleaned and maintained regularly to ensure maximum effectiveness and longevity.
Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for cleaning and maintenance, which may include regular rinsing, soaking in dechlorinated water, or even occasional replacement of the media.
Over time, the HDPE Bio Block Media will become colonized by beneficial bacteria that help maintain water quality in your aquarium. As such, it's important to avoid over-cleaning or replacing the media too frequently, as this can disrupt the beneficial bacteria colonies and negatively affect the overall health of your aquatic animals.
